Pakistan Is Selling Nuclear Materials To N Korea: Reports
Even as it is urging the Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG) to accept its membership in the bloc, Pakistan is continuing to sell nuclear materials to North Korea.
According to reports, highly placed US sources who track nuclear commerce said that Pakistan Energy Commission (PAEC) has been supplying restricted items like ‘Monel’ and ‘Inconel’ to North Korea in violation of the UN sanctions imposed on it.
The report states that the nuclear materials supplied to the PAEC by the Chinese firms have also found their way to Pyongnang and that the China Atomic Energy Authority (CAEA) even recieved a complaint that supplies of a Chinese company were being diverted to N. Korea by Pak authorities.
In another shocking revelation, Pak authorities have supplied equipment to N. Korea that has a direct bearing on producing nuclear weapons.
Reports further state that though Pakistan initially denied frequent visit of two North Korean diplomats from Tehran to Islamabad and Karachi, but when confronted with recorded evidence, it acknowledged that the two North Korean diplomats had indeed visited Islamabad and Karachi.
Though the West has known about these deals for a long time now, it kept this information under cover keeping in view Pakistan’s value in the war against terror. However, since Islamabad has gone into an ‘overdrive’ to upset the NSG balance, the western nations are asking Pakistan to “look at itself in the mirror” before bidding for NSG membership.
