“There is a possibility that the North would conduct an additional nuclear test and fire off a (mid- or long-range) missile in a blitzkrieg manner around the party congress,” Moon said, as quoted by the Yonhap news agency, adding that the South’s military was monitoring the situation closely.
According to Moon Sang-gyun, the North Korean government appears to have completed preparations for a nuclear test.

Tensions on the Korean Peninsula escalated after North Korea successfully carried out a hydrogen bomb test in early January and put a satellite into orbit a month later, violating UN Security Council resolutions and triggering condemnation from the international community.

Last month, South Korean President Park Geun-hye on Monday confirmed reports that Seoul had detected signs of Pyongyang preparing for a new nuclear test.
