Pakistan test-fires nuclear-capable surface-to-surface ballistic missile

1. Syrian President Bashar al-Assad says Damascus is against negotiating with terrorists holing weapons against the government. Assad also criticized the United States for not being serious in destroying Daesh terrorists. He said the takfiri group has gained ground despite airstrikes by a US-led coalition for over a year now.

2. The death toll from Thursday’s triple bomb blasts in northeastern Syria has risen to 60. According to a spokesman for Kurdish forces, more than 80 people were also wounded in the attacks in the town of Tal Tamr in Hasakah province. No group or individual has yet claimed responsibility for the attacks.

3. Iraq’s top Shia cleric Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani calls on the government not to tolerate any violation of the country’s sovereignty amid tensions over the deployment of Turkish troops in northern Iraq. His representative said neighboring states must not send any forces into Iraq under the pretext of fighting terrorism without Baghdad’s approval.

4. Israeli forces have killed three more Palestinians, bringing to 122 the number of people killed since October 1. Israeli troops shot dead a Palestinian in an attack on a Gaza refugee camp. Two Palestinians were killed in separate Israeli raids in the occupied West Bank.

5. Pakistan has test-fired a nuclear-capable surface-to-surface ballistic missile. The Pakistani army says it successfully fired the projectile known as SHAAHEEN THREE, into the Arabian Sea. The missile has a range of over 2,700 kilometers.

6. Niger says 95 of its nationals were among the pilgrims who lost their lives during Hajj stampede in Saudi Arabia this year. Niger had earlier put the death toll at 22. According to a new tally by the Associated Press, the incident in Mina claimed the lives of 2,400 and eleven pilgrims.

7. In Burundi, police have killed five people during violent clashes in the capital, Bujumbura. The men had reportedly hurled grenades at a police patrol following a wave of shootings and explosions. Police say the five were killed when police officers returned fire after the grenade attack.

8. Global oil prices have hit fresh 7-year lows in what appears to be a result of growing oversupply concerns. US benchmark, West Texas Intermediate, for January delivery was down 28 cents at over 36 dollars. Brent crude was also trading 26 cents lower at over 39 dollars
