Shiite Cleric Asks Top Sunni Institution to Unite with Him Against the Jews

Muqtada Al-Sadr, one of the most influential clerics in the Shiite world, has sent out an olive branch to Egypt’s Al-Azhar, a known hotbed for jihadi indoctrination and the most prominent Sunni institution in the world, seeking to unite the sects of Islam against the Jews.
Al-Sadr, who hails from Iraq, said: “Let’s have a common enemy: jews and their extremist subordinates. Let’s put our hands together,” according to a message published on his website over the weekend.
The Iraqi Shiite leader has been encouraged by Al-Azhar’s recent rejection of describing Shiites as infidels, the Egypt Independent newspaper reported on Monday.
“Here, I do not want to engage in a doctrinal argument,” Al-Sadr continued, “I neither want a Shiite to be a Sunni nor a Sunni to become a Shiite.”
Al-Sadr controls an Iranian-backed militia that has battled against United States and coalition forces in Iraq. In May, he threatened to launch attacks on American forces in the region, should the U.S. pass the 2016 National Defense Authorization Act, which provides funding for U.S. efforts in Iraq.
“If the time comes and the proposed bill is passed, we will have no choice but to unfreeze the military wing that deals with the American entity so that it may start targeting American interests in Iraq and outside of Iraq when possible,” he threatened, in remarks translated by the Long War Journal.
“If America persists then it will cease to exist,” the radical cleric concluded.
The Iraqi Shiite leader holds to the same religious beliefs expressed by the Mullahs in Iran, who hope for the end-times to soon come as a means to annihilate the non-Muslim world.
Following the topping of Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein, Al-Sadr spoke to 60 Minutes, famously proclaiming: “Saddam was the little serpent, but America is the big serpent.”
In 2004, coalition forces shut down his newspaper, claiming that it incited violence against U.S. forces, leading Al-Sadr to temporarily flee to Iran, where he was greeted as a hero by the regime in Tehran.

Muslim cleric Sayyed Moqtada al-Sadr, leader of a powerful political movement and a major Iraqi figure, visited Sayyed Ammar al-Hakim, leader of the Islamic Supreme Council of Iraq, to tackle the latest political and security developments, asserting the importance of Iraq’s unity.

After the meeting, Sayyed al-Hakim considered that the federalism is the political system and that all the sectarian divisions are rejected, adding that the National Coalition is mainly concerned with stability in Iraq and with forming a new government as it represents the parliamentary majority.

For his part, Sayyed Sadr asserted that all the parliamentary blocks cooperate to form a new government and to serve the nation.

Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has called on Muslims across the world to unite against Israel over the ongoing crisis in Gaza.

Stating that Israel is benefiting from the “Islamic world’s negligence”, Khamenei hailed Iran’s standpoint on the conflict.

“Zionists are committing these crimes taking advantage of the Islamic world’s negligence. The massacre in Gaza by Zionists should awaken Muslim governments and nations to leave any discord and get united,” he said at a meeting, which was also attended by Iran’s President Hassan Rohani and other cabinet members.

The Iranian administration has also been condemning Israeli forces for their deadly attacks that have claimed a number Palestinian civilians.

Ali Akbar Velayati, a top aide of Khamenei on international affairs, said in a statement: “The horrifying and savage crimes of the Zionist regime against the defenceless people of Gaza once again unveiled the savagery, war-mongering and aggressive nature of this regime to the people of the world.”

“All Muslims are duty-bound to maintain their vigilance in order not to be entangled in the pre-planned scenario of the Zionist enemy and make growing efforts, more than ever, to defuse the Zionist enemy’s objectives through a proper understanding of the realities and the regional developments as well as maintaining their unity, solidarity and consensus.”

The latest remarks follow the promise of Hossein Sheikholeslam, Iran’s director general of the parliament of international affairs, to support the cause of Palestinians “with all its might”.

In the week-long confrontation, at least 178 Palestinians have been killed and more than 1,000 injured. So far there have been no casualties on the Israeli side.
