The Iran nuclear deal, which has the support of the Pope, is about stopping the spread of nuclear weapons. It
is important to control the spread of nuclear weapons and to deter
countries from using them. The Iran nuclear deal is one small step in
the right direction.
Today, there are nine countries already in the nuclear club.
The USA and Russia possess over 90 percent of the 10,000-plus nuclear
warheads in the world. China, France, the United Kingdom, India,
Pakistan, North Korea and Israel are assumed to own the rest of them.
NATO forces also store nuclear weapons in Belgium, Germany, Italy, the
Netherlands and Turkey.
After 9-11-01, the USA decided that Saddam Hussein needed to
be removed in Iraq. That happened and Iraq has been in ruins ever
since. Now we are trying to remove Bashar al-Assad of Syria. Ironically,
our efforts to remove Assad have given rise to ISIS.
The destruction we have caused in Syria and Iraq are now causing the largest refugee crisis since World War II.
The USA needs to use its vast influence to insure that we
seek non-military ways of resolving our international differences. Like
the Pope said, now is the time for dialogue, not military confrontation.
Otherwise, at some point, someone is going to begin using these nuclear weapons.
