The Israel Defense Forces confirmed on Sunday evening that a mortar shell was fired from Gaza into Israel, but did not reach Israel.
The projectile landed within the Gaza Strip, the IDF confirmed.
The incident comes just days after the IDF said it had shot down a drone from the Gaza Strip on Thursday. According to the Israeli military, the device took off at Gaza and headed “in an abnormal way” westwards, over the Mediterranean.
An F-15 fighter jet with the Israeli Air Forces brought the UAV down over the sea. The army did not specify whether the drone carrier projectiles or explosives.
The barrages were launched by the Palestinian Islamic Jihad and its allied terror groups after a video emerged on social media featuring an armored IDF tractor pick up the remains of a slain terrorist.
