Israel attacked several Hamas targets in the southern Gaza Strip, among them a weapons production facility, the Israeli army said overnight Tuesday, adding several hours later that additional  targets were hit in the northern enclave, including underground infrastructure.
According to the military, the strike was carried out in response to two rockets launched at Israel Tuesday evening, one of which was intercepted by the Iron Dome missile defense system.
There were no reports of damage or casualties, apart from a woman who was injured rushing to a shelter in the southern Israeli city of Sderot, near the Gaza border.
Several hours later, sirens went off in the southern city of Ashkelon on, with the army saying non-rocket fire was spotted from Gaza.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in response that “If anyone in Gaza thinks they can raise their head after operation ‘Black Belt’ – they’re making a serious mistake.”

On Monday evening, another rocket was launched from Gaza into Israel and fell in an open area, without even setting off alarms in nearby border communities.
This was the first rocket fired from the Gaza Strip into Israel since two rockets were launched in the direction of the city of Be’er Sheva on November 15.
Hamas claimed responsibility for the rocket fire at Be’er Sheva after the organization had refrained from joining the latest round of fighting between Israel and Islamic Jihad earlier this month.
Thirty-four Palestinians were killed during the flare-up that was sparked by Israel’s targeted assassination of Islamic Jihad commander Baha Abu al-Ata, including nine family members killed by mistake in an Israeli strike. Islamic Jihad fired at least 450 rockets at Israeli communities in retaliation for the targeted assassination of its commander.
