Ali Khamenei vows full assistance to Iraq

Tehran intends to provide all the necessary support to Baghdad for the growth and strengthening of Iraq, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said during a meeting with Iraqi President Fuad Masum.

“There is an extremely dangerous situation in Palestine and Syria. There is a war in Yemen, North Africa. In this context, the stabilization of the situation in Iraq will have a positive impact on the situation in the Middle East,” he said.

 

The Supreme Leader of Iran also described the current state of relations between Iran and Iraq as “unprecedented” and called for closer relations between the two neighbors. “Iraq among Arab and Muslim countries has important and unique advantages,” he said.

 

“Given its status, Iraq can surely influence the regional issues and it should make use of its capacities more than before,” he stressed.

 

In response, Fuad Masum assured that “the Iraqi government and people will never forget the important friendly steps and the assistance that was provided by Iran in the fight against Islamic State.”
