Defense Minister: WMDs Not in Iran’s Defense Doctrine
TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Hossein Dehqan reiterated Tehran’s extreme opposition to the proliferation of the Weapons of Mass Destruction, stressing that WMDs have no room in the country’s defense doctrine.
Addressing the 3rd International Security Issues Conference in the Russian capital, Moscow, on Friday, the Iranian minister warned against the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction (WMD).
He underlined the vital importance of Supreme
Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei’s Fatwa
(religious decree) on the prohibition of the development of the WMDs, and voiced Iran’s strong opposition to such arms.
The Iranian defense minister also stated that indiscriminate fight against the development of the WMDs worldwide, particularly across the Middle-East, to guarantee restoration of security to the region.
On February 22, 2012, Ayatollah Khamenei said the Islamic Republic considers the pursuit and possession of nuclear weapons “a grave sin” from every logical, religious and theoretical standpoint.
Dehqan left Tehran for Moscow on Friday to discuss
mutual cooperation with senior Russian defense officials and also take
part in the International Security Conference in there.
Brigadier General Dehqan’s visit to Moscow takes place at the invitation of his Russian counterpart Sergey Shoygu.
The Third International Security Issues Conference is slated to end work on May 24.
