The Danger of Impeaching Trump

Speaking in Davos, Switzerland, billionaire George Soros said today that the Trump administration was a “danger to the world” but added that he expected it would be a very temporary one. Soros was speaking specifically of the risk of nuclear conflict with North Korea. From Business Insider:
“The threat of nuclear war is so horrendous that we are inclined to ignore it. But it is real,” Soros said, according to a text of his prepared remarks. “Indeed, the United States is set on a course toward nuclear war by refusing to accept that North Korea has become a nuclear power.”
Soros, the long-time Democratic megadonor and hedge fund manager, said US concern over North Korea’s nuclear capability is cultivating a vicious circle that is pushing the two countries toward conflict.
” This creates a strong incentive for North Korea to develop its nuclear capacity with all possible speed, which in turn may induce the United States to use its nuclear superiority preemptively; in effect to start a nuclear war in order to prevent nuclear war — an obviously self-contradictory strategy,” he said.
Having concluded that a pre-emptive nuclear war is imminent, Soros then pronounced the Trump administration a danger to the world. From Bloomberg:
George Soros said President Donald Trump is risking a nuclear war with North Korea and predicts that the groundswell of opposition he’s generated will be his downfall.
“I consider the Trump administration a danger to the world,” the billionaire investor said in a speech from Davos, Switzerland. “But I regard it as a purely temporary phenomenon that will disappear in 2020, or even sooner.”He expects a Democratic “landslide” in the 2018 elections.
Did you catch that bit about Trump being gone “even sooner” than 2020? That seems like an obvious reference to the campaign for impeachment currently being promoted by various Democrats. It’s also being promoted by fellow progressive billionaire Tom Steyer.
Accepting North Korea as a nuclear power, as Soros is calling for here, is not a small thing to ask. North Korea is a communist dictatorship, complete with a gulag, run by an unstable man who has reportedly murdered subordinates who displeased him. In addition, North Korea routinely threatens the nuclear destruction of the United States. That used to be brushed off as hollow talk since the country had no way to deliver a bomb to the majority of US territory. But that changed last year and, as of last fall, NorthKorea now has missiles which are probably capable of reaching nearly all of the continental U.S. Is that a risk America should be willing to take?
